"Building social skills and self-confidence in chldren in grades K-3"

The Rainbow Program at Quail Run is part of a statewide, research based program that uses small group and one on one sessions with children to teach empathy, social problem solving, and emotion management. These social skills are the building blocks for relationship building - skills that boost self-esteem, skills that teach self-control, skills that help children feel more confident in their surroundings and in their interactions with others. Children may benefit from the Rainbow Progam because of new school adjustment, academic pressures, peer pressures, excessive shyness, divorce, and many other reasons. The Second Step curriculum is used in the small group setting. Nondirective play is the research based approach used in the one on one sessions. Referrals to the Rainbow Program can come from teacher recommendations or parent requests. There are two twelve week sessions, one in the fall and one in the spring. For further information contact Krista Depenbrok, school psychologist and Rainbow Project Coordinator, at kdepenbrok@srvusd.net
